The Worship and Music Committee is charged with the oversight and maintenance of the worship life of the congregation. They make sure worship runs smoothly and all supporting duties are carried out in accordance with Lutheran beliefs and principles. This includes the Altar Guild who are responsible for setting up for communion, changing paraments, washing communion glasses, and organizing worship materials in the pews. Greeters meet worshippers as they enter the building, welcome them, and offer assistance as needed. The Usher Teams greet worshippers inside the church, distribute bulletins, collect offering and usher during communion. Acolytes, crucifers, lectors, communion assistants, Eucharistic ministers, nursery attendants, and tapers also fall under the jurisdiction of the Worship and Music committee. The committee ensures the music is supportive of worship by interfacing with the Director of Music.
The Director of Music is responsible for the professional leadership of our vocal and instrumental ensembles which includes the scheduling of rehearsals and service participation for each organization. Children can sing with the Junior Choir from third through sixth grade. They rehearse Thursday evenings at 6 o'clock. Youth Choir members are from seventh grade through high school. They regularly lead worship at one of the Sunday morning services and rehearse on Tuesday evenings. The Senior Choiris generally those persons who have graduated from high school and our College Choir is comprised of college students who gather and sing on an irregular basis as semester schedules permit. The Church Orchestra is our instrumental ensemble that plays for our Festival services of worship. Any musician who has 2 or more years of playing experience is welcome to join. There are two bell choirs available, Alleluia Ringers and our Bell Ensemble. Alleluia Ringers is a three-octave choir for people of all ages and musical ability. They rehearse every Tuesday. The Bell Ensemble is a small group of select ringers who rehearse on a variable basis and prepare anthems for pre-determined targeted dates. Contact Janet Filchner if interested in ringing bells.
Every 2 years, the music department produces a major musical production involving all our musical resources. Children and adults join forces to learn exciting music, dance, choreography, set building, lighting and technical theater production. Our musical for 2012 is Godspell, to be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012 again at the Roxy Theater in Northampton. Check out our Godspell Jr pages for more information on how to obtain free tickets.
